How Owen Mumford aims to remain at the forefront of medical device innovation
Two factors have been crucial in allowing us to become an industry leader in the development of medical devices: our talented team of associates, and our advanced design and manufacturing capabilities. Having always valued and fostered a strong culture of innovation within the company, alongside a commitment to keep pace with the latest technical transformation, it is important for us to continuously develop our existing infrastructure and facilities.
After extensive planning, a refurbishment project for our Test Lab Office and Prototyping Facility at our Head Office in Woodstock has reached completion. This marks yet another important step towards the creation of modern workspaces which not only encourage innovation but futureproof spaces for the needs of our associates.
Originally opened in 1995, our Head Office building houses our Test Lab and advanced rapid Prototyping Facility. These areas have evolved with business needs over the years and the facility has now been fully remodelled to a state-of-the-art environment, giving our talented associates a workspace in which to excel. The floor space for 3D printing machines has been increased by 400%, giving our team the flexibility to add additional prototyping capacity when they need it. It has also allowed for the addition of a new high fidelity 3D printer.
The new 3D printer has many exciting features including an odour free system, high resolution prints, and most importantly, the ability to produce 640,000 colour combinations. These advanced additive manufacturing capabilities enable our R&D teams to be at the foreground of in-house design, working alongside our Human Factors Engineering to make sure that we get the device design right first time.
These latest developments to the site are part of our ongoing pledge to continuously improve infrastructure and align ourselves with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, so that we can deliver the best in innovation and make a positive difference to our customers and our users.
